Your puppy needs access to food and water at least every hour or more often until 6 months of age.

You need to provide a place and time for your puppy to go to the bathroom.

You need to clean up after your puppy to encourage your puppy to use the appropriate place and so your puppy wants to stay a clean puppy. This also prevents the bad habit of "poop-eating".

Your puppy needs to be able to go to the bathroom approximately 5 minutes after waking up.

Your puppy will need to go to the bathroom approximately 20 minutes after eating or drinking.

Your puppy will need an opportunity to go to the bathroom at night just before bed-time.

Puppies do have accidents and need consistent and positive training to understand where they need to go.

Puppies will most likely cry when they are left alone and are away from their family for the first few nights. If you need guidance or support, please call your breeder for assistance. How you handle these first few days can make the difference in how you and your puppy get along for the rest of your puppy's life.

Your puppy needs "chewies" for their whole life to help them cut adult teeth and to clean the teeth like we use a tooth-brush. Regular dental exams can help reduce illness associated with poor dental hygiene.

Your puppy needs to be kept indoors, warm (no less than 70 degrees Fahrenheit), clean, and dry.

Your puppy needs time to adjust to new food. Please mix the food provided with your new food for at least 2 weeks. Remember: Treats should not exceed 10% of your puppy's diet. (This includes dog biscuit type treats, human food, or anything else your dog can ingest like raw-hide chewies or greenies.)

Protect your puppy from common household hazards… electric cords, pennies, plants, cat toys, pills, etc.

Your puppy needs clean food and water bowls every day to prevent disease.

Your puppy will be tired for the first couple of days in a new environment. You have to be responsible for protecting your puppy from exhaustion and over-stimuli by not taking it everywhere and letting everyone hold or pet it. Please treat your new puppy like a new human baby and keep him or her home for a few days until you know what normal behavior for your puppy is. Your puppy will be distracted and may need reminding to eat.

Your new puppy needs to be protected from falls. Puppies don't know they are little and may try to jump off a couch, bed, or even your shoulder. This could result in serious injury or even death. Please hold on to your puppy and supervise any and all children or guests who want to hold your puppy. Please place a pillow or some sort of soft "stairs" next to your bed or couch to protect your puppy from hurting themselves. They are quicker than you might think.

Your puppy is vulnerable when around any other pets, especially when unsupervised. Please crate your puppy or lock them in the bathroom if you have other pets which might hurt your puppy when you are not home. The most common injury to Chihuahuas is eye punctures most commonly caused by cats. The second most common injury is a broken back most commonly caused by larger breed dogs or small children.

Chihuahuas and other small breeds of dogs are susceptible to Hypo-glycemia (low-blood-sugar). If your puppy has signs or symptoms which may include: lethargy, cold or "shaking" for more than 5 minutes, not eating or drinking properly, drooling, acting blind or confused, stumbling, seizures, or loss of consciousness, please call your breeder immediately. If you cannot reach your breeder, give one teaspoon of one of these items: Nutri-Cal or Karo Syrup or wet sugar by mouth, keep puppy warm against your skin, and seek immediate and emergent veterinary care.

Your puppy is up to date on worming and vaccinations when you get him or her (unless otherwise stated). Please consult with your veterinarian about keeping worming and vaccinations current for your local needs.

Your puppy needs love, attention, discipline, bathing, grooming, regular nail trims, exercise, and supervision or limited confinement. Initial only if you understand and are prepared to offer a loving home.
